For households with a driver

Know what the car actually costs you.

You pay for the fuel and the repairs, but the car spends its day with someone else. Bluestream turns each day of driving into a record you can look at, so the cost of running it stops being a mystery.

Free for a household. No card, no subscription, nothing to cancel.

  • Nothing to buy or fit to the car
  • Works where there is no signal
  • Set up in an evening
Boulevard Lumumba in Kinshasa, seen from above

Your car spends its day out here, while you are somewhere else.

The car leaves in the morning and comes back at night.

In between, everything you are paying for happens out of sight. Not because anyone is hiding it, but because nobody is writing it down.

Fuel money with nothing attached to it

You hand over money for fuel. What comes back is a number, or a receipt, or neither. There is nothing to compare it against.

A car that gets worse quietly

An engine losing efficiency does it slowly. By the time it is obvious from the fuel bill, the repair is bigger than it needed to be.

Questions you would rather not ask

Without a record, raising it at all sounds like an accusation. With one, it is just a question about a number.

How it works

Three things, and only the first takes any effort.

  1. Your driver installs the app

On the phone they already carry. You create their login; they never need an email address or a card.

  2. They note the meter and the fuel

At the start and end of the day, and whenever they fill up. Three taps. It works with no signal and sends everything when there is one.

  3. You look whenever you want

From your own phone. What the car is using, what it has cost, where it last was, and anything that does not add up.

What it looks for

It compares the car against its own history, not against anyone else. A car that has always used eleven litres is not a problem; a car that used to use eight is.

Fuel economy drifting down

Week after week, slowly. This is usually the car asking for a service, and catching it early is the cheapest it will ever be.

A sudden change

Economy that drops in one week and stays down is a different story from one that drifts. Something happened, and it is worth knowing what.

Fuel that does not match the distance

More litres recorded than the tank holds, or a level that rises with no fill recorded. Often a mistyped number. Sometimes not.

The meter and the route disagreeing

The phone recorded the trip. If the odometer moved much further than the trip did, you will see it.

A service falling due

Counted from the distance actually driven rather than from a date you are trying to remember.

Where the car last was

The last place it reported, and when. Useful far more often for ordinary reasons than suspicious ones.

This is not a device for watching someone

A person works for you and drives your car. That relationship is worth more than any number on a screen, and a tool that damages it has cost you more than it saved.

  • Your driver sees the same records you do, in the app, in their own language.
  • Position is recorded while a shift is running, and not outside one. They start it and they end it.
  • Nothing here says anyone did anything wrong. It says two numbers do not agree, and leaves the conversation to you.
  • There is a plain notice written for drivers, and you can read it before you ask anyone to install anything.

Free, and not the kind that stops being free

A household needs one car and one driver. The free account holds up to eight of each, which means you will not meet the edge of it. Everything works: nothing is held back for a paid tier.

  • French and English, on the phone and on the web
  • Your records are yours, and you can ask for them or for their deletion
